Pierwsza płyta legendy szwedzkiego death metalu!


Sweden, sweet Sweden… The breakthrough of the 80/90s was a real revolution in metal world. A hideous monster was born – Swedish death metal. From many albums and bands I would like to point is Desultory, underrated a bit, in the shadow of Entombed, Unleashed and Dismember for example. I don’t know why, maybe “Into Eternity” came too late comparatively to the albums of bands I mentioned above? Maybe Desultory’s attitude, maybe no-satanic lyrics, who the hell knows?

After releasing several promising demo tapes, Desultory began collaboration with Metal Blade. “Into eternity” consists of five songs known from demo times and four ones written especially for it. The first album shows not only death but also some thrash metal influences. But don’t be afraid, these Swedes prepared pure death metal in the way it should to be! Believe me, the effect is just perfect!

When you can hear the sound of music and Klas Morberg screams, you can relish great riffs of the title track (which is in fact the longest one), bass passages during slowing down and fine Stefan leads divided into two parts. Generally, Stefan Pöge did an excellent performance on this album. His guitar works/leads are really tuneful, memorable, it makes “Into Eternity” something special. After first killing introduction, “Depression” starts with rapid, furious opening with powerful drumming. Inside delicious blasts, Matti from Dismember on vocals (chorus) and great solo leads. The next song and again brutal/energetic fresh riffs with conspicuous bass guitar and slow down where you can admire Thomas drum rage! Genius! “The Chill Within”, after a calm introduction, it becomes a real tornado with great short Stefan leads (yes, again…). “Visions” opened by steady drums shimmers with excellent riffage/drumwork and fine lyrics coaptation to the music. Of course I don’t want to add words about solo leads… The next one is “Twisted Emotions”, fine introduction, (Pöge suprises once again creating beautiful solo), after few seconds it becomes pure death metal song with slowing down enriched by Stefan solowork. Yes… and now it’s time for “Forever Gone”… This one is a little bit different from the remainder. Some light keys on the start, slow leads and Klas screaming his words of wisdom… Amazing, outstanding opening of the killer track (probably the best?). You can hear a real band, four soldiers of pure metal which know what to do with their skills, minds and instruments! Fast, accurate song with crushing guitar solo ends with Klas screams “… no one can ease my sorrow!”. In turn “Passed Away” is a just pure blast in your face with some gore lyrics (the only one on this album) which ends suddenly. The last element of this masterpiece is “Asleep”. It doesn’t mean a time for forty winks he, he… Desultory attacks with energetic riffs, some twisted melodies bombing auditory centre. Here we have slow down, murderous double bass assault and seemingly chaotic Stefan’s lead. The entirety is successful by keyboard outro lasting few seconds…

To put it all together – mixing excellent perfect riffs, bass/drums devastation and biting vocals, Desultory created something I define as a magnum opus of death metal genre. It sounds raw a bit, from the other side very muscular. A word ‘desultory’ means chaotic, untidy, planless, unmethodical. Here the situation is just inversely proportional to the band’s name. So this is obvious that by this review I would like to pay homage to Desultory, unique band with soul. The band which is a real interpretation of everything in metal music.

So, my Masters, I want to go with You… into eternity!!!
