The Bouncing Souls, Agnostic Front, Dropkick Murphys, Roger Miret and the Disasters i The Analogs.
Powstał w 1978 roku w Warszawie, początkowo używając nazw The Boors i Kryzys Romansu. Założyli go uczniowie jednego z warszawskich liceów - Robert Brylewski (git, voc), Marek Iwańczuk (bas), Piotr "Mrówa" Mrowiński (git, voc) i Kamil Stoor (dr). Klasyka!!! A fun thing about this New York proto-hardcore band’s “retrospective” CD is that you can track their progression not just by year but also by song length: while most of the earlier tracks barely break the minute mark, song lengths double and often triple as you work through the disc, culminating in the four-minute-plus live version of “I Can See You.” The music similarly progresses in proportion to the longer running times, with short, simple, guttural blasts a la The Fix giving way to more complex, almost poppy tunes creeping in by the time the band threw in the towel in 1984, a development made all the more interesting considering how many of them big city hardcore bands opted for the metal path to artistic bliss. In all, the assorted demos, live tracks, and EP cuts are well worth a listen and serve as a nice reminder of a time when all of this punk stuff was new, raw, and not overrun by career musicians slumming until a record deal is dropped in their laps. jimmy (Mad at the World) ..::TRACK-LIST::.. 1st Demo 1981: 1. ..::OPIS::.. DVD 5 NTSC 4:3 DD 2.0 Wydawnictwo ukazało się 15 listopada 2004 roku nakładem wytwórni muzycznej Century Media Records. Na albumie znalazł się występ zespołu zarejestrowany 16 stycznia 2004 roku w Commodore Ballroom w Vancouver w Kanadzie This is probably the best concert DVD I have ever seen, Devin Townsend packs in so much energy to his live show, and if you don’t have the pleasure of seeing them live, this must be the next best thing. The set list for this concert manages to pack in the stuff from their newer CD and some of the older songs too, making for a pretty well rounded set. Some more older songs would have been nice to hear, but everything on the DVD is performed so well that there is really no reason to complain. It’s really amazing just how good this concert sounds, if you have surround sound you are in for a real treat because it is just a heavy metal assault on your eardrums you are not soon to forget. This goes for the video as well, everything is very clear and there are some nice split screen effects that are used, as well as plenty of shots of the audience. Incase you are not aware, Devin Townsend is a funny man, and it is absolutely hysterical to see the things he says to the audience, they are so random and so odd that you cannot help but laugh at the sheer insanity of it all. The extras are pretty standard, but are well done. You get two music videos and then you get an interview segment with some of the crew and of course the band, which has some funny moments of it’s own, one in particular involving a hole In the pants. See this if you like good concert DVD’s. Definitely see this if you want an idea of what Strapping Young Lad is like, And you must get this if you are a fan of the band, you absolutely will not regret it. TheBigDizzle ..::TRACK-LIST::.. ..::TRACK-LIST::.. 1997 - Wake Of Devastation 2004 - Moment Of Silence 2011 - Fateless https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vB9UYcqIlI4 SEED 14:30-23:00. ..::OPIS::.. Kiedy Rhys Fulber miał pięć lat, ojciec zabrał go na koncert Kraftwerk. Dali temu wyraz w duecie Delerium. A utwór rewelacyjnie przebojowy. Podobnie jak Man Up, gdzie te słowa służą za refren – i od razu masz go w głowie. Podobnie w The Reckoning, o biblijnym końcu świata. I Unbreakable – o więzi grupy z fanami, nawet z koncertowym okrzykiem i chwilą wrzawy tłumu. Będzie śpiewane przez publiczność, będzie! Odmianę nastroju wprowadza Ravages Of Time, spokojniejszy, refleksyjny. Z kolei Straight Up Jack lokuje się blisko stylu AC/DC. A kończą tę świetną płytę jednym z najbardziej agresywnych numerów, wspomnianym Southside Of Hell. Paweł Brzykcy ..::TRACK-LIST::.. 1. Diving Into Sin (4:01) 2. Humanoid (4:35) 3. ...SIŁA I PIĘKNO MUZYKI TKWIĄ W JEJ RÓŻNORODNOŚCI.
..::OPIS::.. Druga płyta jest bardziej hard rockowa, przypominająca dokonania Uriah Heep, ze szczyptą Procol Harum. Paladin may only have ever released two albums, but their second "Charge" is an absolute classic of early 70's melodic prog. There are many different styles and sounds on the album, yet the whole is nothing less than a coherent masterpiece. The Roger Dean sleeve may not be an absolute guarantee of quality, but Paladin sit well with their peers such as Yes, Uriah Heep, Asia, etc., whom Dean graced with his artwork. There are four feature tracks on the album. The opening "Give me your hand" sets the tone, with rich organ and guitar backing a strong vocal for a fine piece of melodic hard rock. "Good lord" is a slightly softer but still upbeat song with some excellent guitar work by Derek Foley. It leads into the album's best track, the wonderfully atmospheric "Mix your mind with the moonbeams". The multi-tracked vocals and trippy lyrics are pure early 70's ("Let the cosmic light diffuse itself, in all its magic ways"). The track is awash in keyboard layers, and chiming guitars. This is PENDRAGON years before Pendragon existed! Also included is an all too rare Hammond organ solo, similar to the one on URIAH HEEP's "July Morning". The closing track "Watching the world pass by" has it all in about 9 minutes. It starts with some interesting keyboard moods, before breaking into an almost funky harmonica led wall of sound. About midway, we suddenly lurch into a barn dance, before a superb guitar solo of some length brings the album to its climactic conclusion. The album is rounded out by three shorter tracks. "Well we might" is an early Slade (yes Slade!) like rocker with some great guitar and some very effective stop go interludes. "Anyway" is a mellotron backed ballad which contrasts superbly with the generally upbeat nature of the album. This track appears to have been a late addition to the original LP, as it appears on a sticky label added to the track listing. "Get one together" is the only dip, being a pretty nondescript instrumental. "Charge" is a truly superb album, very much of its time, but still highly enjoyable. The band were destined to split before recording any further albums, but at least they went out on a high. Easy Livin I think that I listened to this now very hard to find album for the first time in 1975-76. One of my brothers, who plays guitar, borrowed it for a time from one of his friends. He played it very much while playing his first electric guitar while he was learning how to play it. I remember that I really didn`t like this album very much at that time, but I liked a lot the cover art, done by Roger Dean. So, since then the more associated memory that I had from this album was the cover art. Well, I think that, strictly speaking, this is not a full Prog Rock album, but it is good anyway. I found some influences from URIAH HEEP and DEEP PURPLE in their sound, with their mix of Hard Rock with some Prog Rock arrangements. There are also some influences from PROCOL HARUM in Pete Solley`s organ playing. It is really an album with eclectic sounds, very enjoyable, that sounds a bit dated, with a sound that I found very characterisitic of some other albums released in the early seventies. "Give Me Your Hand" is a Hard Rock song with good guitars and organ, plus some Latin-Influenced percussion. "Well We Might" is mostly an Rock and Roll song played with good slide guitar. "Get On Together" is one of the most Prog Rock influenced songs, in a song composed by the band`s drummer, Keith Webb. "Anyway" also has Prog Rock influences, with very good orchestral arrangements. "Good Lord" is another good Hard Rock song. The last songs in this album, "Mix Your Mind with the Moonbeams" and "Watching the World Pass By" are very Prog Rock in arrangements, and are among the best in this album. Pete Solley years later played with PROCOL HARUM, adding sytnhesizers to the organ`s sound of the band for their final album of the seventies, called "Something Magic", in 1977. He was the main songwriter in this PALADIN`s album, but all the other members of the band also contributed to some songs as songwriters. It is a shame that this band only recorded two albums and later split. All the members are very good musicians. The lead and backing vocals are also very good. Guillermo ..::TRACK-LIST::.. 1. ...SIŁA I PIĘKNO MUZYKI TKWIĄ W JEJ RÓŻNORODNOŚCI.
..::OPIS::.. This album was described as a "bastard mix of Carcass and Voivod". That is actually not far from the truth. This CD was my introduction to this band and I must say that I am intrigued at just how innovative this band is. A lot of bands I have heard lately have been more copy-cat versions of bands they claim to draw influences from, but Supuration know where to draw this line. From the progressive elements all the way to the death and even slight thrash elements, this band can take any mixture of these influences and make it work. I have not heard an album in this genre this innovative and original since Cynic's "Focus". To the typical metal fan, it may be hard to grasp the concept of what the band is going for here. However, if you have an open mind and are wanting something fresh and new and perhaps a little unusual then this just might be what you are looking for. Besides the aforementioned influences of Carcass and Voivod, which can be easily noticed, other influences such as ...And Oceans, Crematory, Aborym and Newer Samael can also be heard. Vocally, this album is somewhere between Carcass "Heartwork" and "Swansong" era with a little mixture of "Act Seven" and "Believe" era Crematory for a little added flavor. The vocal patterns used here really set the tunes off and blend very well with these fantastic metal orchestrations. The lyrical concepts are a tad abstract but that just adds to the aura of the tunes presented here. They definitely leave you thinking. As for the riffing and drumwork, they seem to use the traditional progressive death metal format with a touch of gothic and industrial genres just to make things that much more brutal and interesting. There might be others who may say that this doesn't fit the definition of brutal as compared to other bands but it's all in how you perceive the hard work put in to an album such as this as well as the delivery of such a masterpiece. You can tell from the first listen of this CD that these guys worked very hard in the construction of this metal gem. I want to urge everyone wanting to check out new bands or those wanting a breath of fresh air in the extreme metal world to definitely check this band and CD out. These guys are here to take this genre to the next level. Like I said earlier, this is my first introduction to the band so i need to backtrack and check out their back catalogue. Aside from that, you cannot create a CD of this magnitude and go unnoticed for very long. This will find a lot of time in my stereo and I will also be putting it on my MP3 player. The thick sound and production on top of everything else, make this a listening experience that you will be sure to remember for a long time to come. Akerthorpe First and foremost, if you're looking for something different in the realms of death metal, go check out Supuration. These guys have been around since 1989 and also developed a side project called S.U.P. that dealt in prog. This album is the third part of their cube saga called Cube 3 and even though it seems to lack the originality of the second part of the saga, Incubation, the new release makes up for the title with what lurks in the music itself. Progressive death metal assaults occur here with definite gravel vocals and a clean approach that reminds me of Enslaved, just with death metal instead of black metal (but give them time, seeing as they covered so much crap on Riitiir), and the whole thing comes off as refreshing and unique. There. I said it. Unique. These days, many bands try to be too unique and wind up sounding just completely odd altogether (not that I don't mind that), but hearing a group of guys that just make a subtle difference really comes off as something of a musical gift to my ears. The first thing you'll notice about Supuration is that the music isn't necessarily fast even when the drums blast. They also don't seem to be interested in bludgeoning and even if the drums are pounding in places like "The Delegation 5:32" where you will still hear a slight clean vocal interjection (The Disenthrall 2:20.). Yes, this is a different kind of death metal, so leave all of your expectations at the door. You might consider this odd, but I feel as if I might have to listen to this album one more time, even though I listened to it a few days prior during the listening process that I give each and every album I review. There's just so much going on within this music ("Consumate 6:09", for example) that I literally am having a hard time breaking it down in to a consumable package for words to convey. France has given us a lot of great musical exports with Gojira being one of the most well known, but I must inform you lovers of sweeps that these guys sound absolutely nothing like Gojira. This is certainly progressive death metal of a unique flair (I wouldn't even liken them to Opeth, in all honesty) that is not only interesting, but off-kilter in many aspects and incredibly listenable. The words "highly recommended" should certainly appear in 72" font, but I will instead leave you with that observation instead of actually doing what would come off as ridiculous. One other thing that I need to explain about this band is that Supuration are death metal. The music is certainly backed with all the grim and unwelcoming atmosphere that you might expect, but it certainly seems like the soundtrack to a really fucked up sci-fi film that I've never seen and certainly want to. There are metal magazines and other blogs that will probably say "yeah, it's okay", but I don't feel that some of these reviewers are literally listening to the music, just skimming through and making way for what's next on their plate (mainly noting Decibel) so they can go home and listen to the music that they want to listen to. I sometimes feel as if some of these reviewers consider reviewing discs to be a chore. Like "oh man, they sent me more albums. I really wanted to listen to the band x album" and my response to that is to check out the promos first. There's a big chance that you'll discover something in there that you will like better than the "band x" album, or the chance that band x's new album is as good as you would've liked. That happens. But as far as Surpuration goes, I'm giving it a perfect ten and here is the reason for that. It's different, it's original and not something you've heard over and over again by bands with the same sounds and different names. The execution on the album is perfect; it's death metal with a progressive nature that sounds 100% different from any other band out there doing progressive death metal. Most of them draw on Opeth. These guys do not. They were out before Opeth, if you can believe it. The melodies are catchy, intriguing, and a bit odd, which I find appealing, and the vocals meld well enough to come across as anything that Enslaved played clean and harsh with while still maintaining the death metal origins of the band. If these guys don't get known for this record here in the states, then I would consider myself completely incompetent in my reviewing abilities and the genre of metal doomed. This is what I wanted to hear in 2013. These guys brought it. Go check it out. Lordmaltreas ..::TRACK-LIST::.. 1. Sinergy Awakes 5:42 2. Introversion 4:06 3. The Disenthrall 2:20 4. ..::OPIS::.. There might be others who may say that this doesn't fit the definition of brutal as compared to other bands but it's all in how you perceive the hard work put in to an album such as this as well as the delivery of such a masterpiece. ..::OPIS::.. 'Attic are back with their furious third album entitled 'Return Of The Witchfinder'. The german five piece presents dark and sinister heavy metal with a slight black metal influence - fierce and evil as it can possibly get. ' This album is both back to the roots and also more extreme compared to 'The Invocation' and 'Sanctimonious', vocalist Meister Cagliostro states.' It's the traditional Attic sound meeting some new and even heavier elements." Follow the Witchfinder's call or burn at the stake!" German heavy metal occultists Attic are finally back! After two majestic albums, the third in this unholy discography is now due to be released by long-term label Van Records on April 5th. “The Covenant” begins our journey with haunting orchestral atmospherics. Rather than giving a dull overused beginning, this sets the tone for the ominous but grandiose experience that lies in wait for us. I must admit that I have listened to the lead single “Darkest Rites” quite a few times since the music video was unleashed. The way this cuts right in from that introduction sets the massive feeling of the record in motion. Huge melodies from the guitars with eerily chilling vocals bounce along rhythmic pounding on the drums and bass, firing on all cylinders across the board. Of course the resemblances to King Diamond and Mercyful Fate are redundant but this is more than worship, this is pure sacrilegious ecstasy. Attic write truly spellbinding music with is sonically enchanting and proficiently delivered with a stunning production and terrifying cover to match. The way the drums pop through the mix and the soaring guitars don’t overshadow the rest feels so naturally grand and allows the utterly momentous listen to be truly appreciated from the get-go. Opening with sublime excellence, “Return Of The Witchfinder” is looking to be a truly epic listen. Between all of the emotive, powerful and vibrant concoctions of darkness there is a reliance on only masterful musicianship and soulfully driven songwriting. Each piece feels like it is coming from the heart and played with inarguable potency. The chilling effect is palpable. Although creepy, blasphemous and secretive, there is a quality to this record that all heavy metal should have; the desire to blast it louder than hell. These galloping 80s melodies barrel into blasting ferocity with seamless transitions, ensuring every second is thrilling and the dynamics never suffer. Tempests of extremity with the warmth of the melodies collide to orgasmically sumptuous sonic effect, showcasing a band whose third offering is another true masterpiece (as are the previous works) that cannot be overstated. Punchy bass gives the bottom end to the dagger-like guitars and the boom of the snare and toms fills out the space between. The spectrum of musicality is full of sheer wonder and the cinematic, theatrical delivery of the vocals ties it all together so gorgeously. The witchfinder’s return is in nothing but greatness. This is without a doubt Attic’s heaviest record to date. The intensity and delivery are on overdrive. But those classic feelings of cult heavy metal from the prior LP’s are still here in abundance and nothing feels lost or lacking identity. Rather, the natural push forward while keeping both feet planted firmly on their own territory is a healthy one. Taking their consistent strengths and offering us something inspired, new and refreshing with all of the qualities we loved is something all fans of the band are going to appreciate. Equally, new listeners will surely be floored by the luminescent grandeur of “Return Of The Witchfinder” when they find just how much this band has to offer on so many levels. Sonically, aesthetically and musically magnificent, nobody can deny the might of Attic who clearly forge forth with every confidence in the world. Deservedly so. Some moments feel familiar, some totally estranged, but all of them are absolutely marvellous. I cannot cover my excitement about this record, nor do I intend to. The bar and my hopes were set ridiculously high, a damn tough criteria to achieve when I expected so much from this band. Still, they knock it out of the park with a blinding flash. Any song, let alone the entire experience should be evidence enough of why. Rise! Join this infernal night! Unholy, mystical and sincerely phenomenal heavy metal continues to triumph on Attic’s brilliant new opus. Another enchanting tale of evil and the occult delivered through some of the best music you will feast upon this year. Although the wait has been considerable by modern standards at seven years, there is no denying this was worth every moment and clearly the time was not spent in vain. No, Attic obviously have been distilling the perfect blend of their satanic heavy metal and refining it until it is no less that what we hear here, total dark majesty. Join the coven... Nattskog7 Even though I have been aware of the German heavy metal band Attic and their status as one of the spiritual successors to King Diamond and Mercyful Fate alongside Portrait and Them, I have sadly never had the chance to properly check out the band even though I am a huge fan of both Mercyful Fate and King Diamond. For quite some time, I was so busy with Portrait's discography that I just made a huge mistake by overlooking Attic entirely. However, I am willing to fix that mistake by taking a look at their recently released third full-length album Return of the Witchfinder. The album has been out for some time now, and now with much anticipation and excitement, I have decided to willingly enter the dark age world of Attic, where witches burn and zealots gather, to witness the return of the witchfinder. From the very get-go, whispers and haunting tales set the mood of the album, in a faithful ghostly fashion, followed by spooky and occult heavy metal that immediately screams out in pure King Diamond/Mercyful Fate style. Heavy banging guitar riffs, superb melodies, spectacular solos, relentless drumming and King Diamond styled vocals of Meister Cagliostro, all dominate throughout the entire album, while leaving open space to include other interesting bits like the surprising blast beats on the tracks "Hailstorm and Tempest" and "Synodus Horrenda", clean guitar sections and horrific organ keyboards. While being completely immersed in the album, you will feel that it has a powerful and fluent progression as it goes from one track to another, with a strong emphasis on the storytelling aspect with concepts that include demons, rituals, witch burning and other occult horror themes. The horror elements contribute a lot to the atmospheric side of Attic's music, creating an aura that will definitely evoke images of these horrific events in your head as you just let yourself go. It's got such a powerful transition between tracks, that once it reaches the conclusion with the final song "Synodus Horrenda", it simply gives you this sense of epic closure where you are satisfied with the journey you just embraced. The songwriting is undoubtedly dynamic all the way through and each song is filled with plenty of progression, providing a very fun rollercoaster of ideas in this thrillride. With everything this album has to offer, from the music to the stories, as well as the awesome choruses, it is simply impossible to not be engaged from start to finish, especially since the album has such a strong mesmerizing quality to it. These fun inclusions such as blast beats and borderline black metal moments have proven to be incredibly effective by expanding the band's sound and keeping you constantly on edge. Attic is just unmistakable in their game because they just continue being a great successor to Mercyful Fate/King Diamond's style and sound, checking all the marks that this band satisfies the requirements. Whether you prefer Attic over Portrait, or the other way around, you just can't deny that both bands manage to take all the best elements of Mercyful Fate and King Diamond, and then effectively incorporate them in their albums, while both of them still remain in their own unique realm. The cover art by Daniel Valeriani in my opinion perfectly conveys the essence of the album in its pure form, giving this horrific depiction a lot of depth and style that it just captures every bit of Attic's storytelling through music. On the final note, the production of this album is also pretty great and I really like the sound, especially since it's so clean and pristine while still maintaining that level of heaviness in the music. From what I have come to expect from the Return of The Witchfinder, I have to say that this is indeed a magnificent album that checks all the marks for me. To put it shortly, it's an "all killer no filler" album with lots of great stuff to be found, and not a desperate and lazy rip-off attempt of King Diamond and Mercyful Fate. It is definitely a faithful spiritual successor to both bands, but also a great exemplary album on its own. Attic has without a doubt nailed this one, and I am very pleased with the end result.
